About Simprints

I am currently doing my Master's final internship at a startup called Simprints, in Cambridge UK. It is a non-profit company, focused on building biometrics for development, that is, biometric hardware and software designed specifically for Governmental and Non Governmental Organizations fighting poverty. It is actually my second internship there: the team offered me to come back after a great summer internship in 2016, and I was very happy to accept that offer!

The first product of the company was released at the end of the summer. It is basically a very affordable and super resistant portable fingerprint scanner, piloted by an Android application that can be easily integrated into any work flow to add biometric identification capabilities. In a nutshell, it helps providing essential services more efficiently to some of the 1.5 billion people in the work who still lack formal identification. Think about how difficult it would be for you to access banking services, education, healthcare, etc, if you had no ID card or passport... I could go on and on, but instead I invite you to visit Simprints' beautiful website if you want to lear more.

My responsibilities as a software engineer at Simprints include (but are not limited to) designing and developing parts of the Android application, of the scanner firmware and of the biometric algorithms used to match fingerprints.
